Many of you are familiar with our Interiors by Decorating Den Dream Room competition. For those of you who are not, I will explain.
Each year many of the decorators and designers in our organization enter this competition. They have a professional photographer photograph a room or rooms that they wish to enter. These photos along with the before shots and product samples are put onto a presentation board and submitted along with a story about the project.
The story tells of the client's needs, goals and any possible problem they have with the space. It also tells how the designer accomplished the goals and provided the solution.
The boards are collected at our corporate office and taken to New York City where they are on display for editors from magazines such as; House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Windows and Walls, Country Home and many others.
These editors determine the winners in each category who are then announced at our annual conference in May.
I have entered this competition for many years and have won several awards. A fringe benefit is that many of these same editors are responsible for finding features for the magazines and often select from our entries-even some that did not "win". I am fortunate to have been published numerous times.
The most important reason for entering is to have professional photos for my portfolio. This helps prospective clients understand how their room can be transformed from the before to the after!
